 Title: Back to the river
. “Coming back to the river” : “back” is not the proper word, because it is more about a step toward the future than a nostalgic step backwards. Not a described future, already set up, but a future where nothing is already written, nor the subject, nor the style pattern. I am just following a path in the painting, with a passionate will, at the heart of winter, to go back to the river and its lights. The work with the knife in abstraction has borne its fruits. This large painting evokes the atmosphere just after sunrise : this short moment when the frames wake up, when the shades of the trees are not yet oppressd by the sun beams, when colours seem to be ready to go on stage for the show of the day. The oil, carried away by the tool and the gesture of the painter, creates subtle changes of thickness and colour mixing, leading to a very particular way of light spreading on the canvas.The oulines appear clearly if you compare it to my previous painting of the month (Marne river banks in Fall, see my Archives files) and the figurative tone is obvious. But my quest could not be over, and I don’t know yet where will lead me this meeting between technic and size of abstraction on one side, and on the other side emotions of landscapes and lights.
