Title: Bridges

Bridge of Narni, bridge of Charing Cross, bridge of Argenteuil : there is a long list because bridges have always fascinated painters. What is a bridge in the lanscape ? First of all a monument, a skeketon, bases, something heavy and stable, even when only ruins remain. It makes us feel reassured, it takes us away. It seems to be forever standing above a matter that flows us away, the river, the torrent. It protects us from the current, its fury. From its protecting parapet we can throw with unselfconsciousness our sorrow and our pains. The water and the shades are of interest to the painter. In this darker place you can hear the echo, the lights is fading, the rains stops. The arches stress the movement, the rythm of space. The bridge is often a mirror too. You can see the rest of its body in the reflexion of the water.

The bridge will also help us reach the other bank. It is the most disturbing. The crossing of the river on a bridge is nothing but a metaphor of the giant steps we must do to go ahead in our lives. Walking on a bridge is not meaningless, it is one of the steps that put together at the end will make us overcome difficulties with strengh and confidence. To paint the bridge is to claim and to share this founding act of crossing.
