 Title: Instant
Time lies in the art, in the painting, everyone of us can feel it in its own way. Time used to make it, time to use to see it, time spent between the date of its making and the date it is seen . It is a long period, that requires a certain form of concentration, and also our intelligence. It deals with our cultural background, our esthetical references, the education of our look. These elements will combine to build our jugement. Besides this long time, painting has a particular glitter, merely perceptible : the one of “stealthiness”, the passing of time. In each canvas, intelligence is followed by emotion, because here is the “moment” : very short period that our consciousness takes as a whole, says the dictionnary. It is first the moment of the meeting, like an obviousness : this painting speaks to me, please me, move my soul. There is also the feeling of being close to the painter, to be able to understand his choices, his decisions.The is at the end what unite intimately the artist, its creation and the public : the trail of the painter’s hand on the canvas, the brush tracks. It is the tangible sign of time. The painter’s brushstroke is the moment of the painting. (oil on canvas, 110 x 81 cm, august 2007) |
